Current Situation
A vigorous north to northwesterly flow over Victoria ahead of a fast moving cold front that is crossing eastwards across central districts this morning, clearing eastern districts early this afternoon.
Damaging winds averaging 50-60 km/h with peak gusts of 90-100 km/h (reaching up to around 110km/h over elevated areas) are forecast for all affected districts. Peak wind gusts of 120-130 km/h are likely about Alpine areas this morning and are also possible with isolated thunderstorm and heavy shower activity elsewhere. Winds are forecast to ease from the west during the day.
The Severe Weather Warning for parts of the Mallee forecast district has been cancelled, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.
The strongest wind gusts recorded in Victoria so far Monday night and early Tuesday are;
142 km/h at Fawkner Beacon, 128 km/h at Mt Hotham, 122km/h at Tullamarine, 120km/h at St Kilda, 118km/h at Mt William and Mt Gellibrand, 117 km/h at Mt Buller and Essendon Airport, 115km/h at Laverton and Wilsons Prom, 109km/h at Mt Hotham Airport, 107km/h at Swan Hill Airport, 104 km/h at Hopetoun Airport, Hogan Is, Sheoaks and South Channel Is, 102km/h at Moorabbin Airport.
